Yes.... we really did name her Funny Face!
Nothing funny looking about it but when she was little,
and cute and cuddly it really fit her since she is solid
mahogany red except for the white splash on her face and
chin! We called her Funny Face for so long we just ended
up registering her that way... We had shortened it to
"Face" since she was so huge!! Didn't want to make her
mad!
Face was another Alliance first freshener that we
loved! She had a very well attached mammary and milked
well... A very tall, long, elegant doe... she was our
gamble for the year and it sure paid off! If you look at
her pedigree, you will see that she is a VERY tight
linebreeding... Her dam was already a half brother /
sister breeding and then we bred her dam to the dam's
sire's full genetic brother! We figured if we were going
to pick up faults, this would do it! Well.... she is
actually an improvement over her dam and her dam is a
very nice doe! Of course, there are a lot of CH animals
in the immediate pedigree we were doubling up
on...
Face was in the group that was poisoned from the
mistletoe that came down in a big windstorm... she didn't
die immediately as some of the others did but hung on for
over a year but there was just too much damage to her
organs... she went from 200 lbs to 80 lbs before she died
and was bright and perky right up to the last day when
she went to sleep and didn't wake up... Her last year of
life we didn't breed her and just let her hang out, come
into the milkroom to be brushed (she loved her brushing!)
and just generally spoiled her...
